Deputy Director of Programme

Bangladesh – 12 months

 

Handicap International is an international organisation specialised in the field of disability.  Non-governmental, non-religious, non-political and non-profit making, it works alongside people with disabilities, whatever the context, offering them assistance and supporting them in their efforts to become self-reliant. Since its creation, the organisation has set up programmes in approximately 60 countries and intervened in many emergency situations. It has a network of eight national associations (Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA) which provide human and financial resources, manages projects and raises awareness of Handicap International’s actions and campaigns.

 

Country context :

Handicap International’s program I Bangladesh grows since 2003 (activities, staff and funds) with now 9 different projects : Disaster preparedness mainstreaming disability issue / Promotion of the rights of the disabled persons / Sports for all / Intellectual disability / Proximity services / Provision of assistive technology / Partnership with “Abilis Foundation” / CBR project and currently an emergency project because of the floods and monsoons. As Bangladesh has a broad and dynamic civil society, our actions there are based on strong partnership with local organisation.

 

Job description :

The Deputy position is created to provide a support at programme level in management of the projects. He will be the line manager of the projects coordinators.

Under the supervision of the Director of Programme (DP), the Deputy DP will:

·         Manage and supervise HI project managers in Bangladesh in a pro-active and supportive way, according to the strategies and plans defined at the programme level.

·         Develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships and co-operation between HI projects and departments, partners and other relevant actors;

·         Assist the Director of Programme in the development of new projects; strategy development and, when needed, donor liaison.

 

Post constraints :

The position is based in Dhaka and will request some frequent travels within the country.

Possibility with family.

 

Profile sought :

 

- At least 4 years practical experience in project management (in development or post emergency situation),

Planning and Organizing

- Comprehensive understanding of capacity building issues as related to health and social sector projects;

- Strong leadership and ability to provide guidance and training to project managers;

- Ability to plan his own work and manage conflicting priorities;

- Excellent communication (spoken and written) and reporting skills

- Teamwork, good interpersonal skills

- Good computer skills (Microsoft Office …).  

 

 

Languages : English: indispensable, French would be a plus

 

Remuneration : Volunteer or salaried status based on experience

Volunteer : 750 or 850€ + allowance, accommodation, medical coverage and insurance

Salaried : 2250 to 2500€ monthly gross salary + benefits

 

Length of Mission : 12 months

 

Start date : as soon as possible
