A Rapid
Response Team was then set up, built around the
To complete
its mission, namely piloting and managing the emergency and post-emergency
operations of the NGO and supporting other programs in the development of
disaster preparedness initiatives, the Emergency Response Department (DAU) needs
to supplement its present team, and thereby attain its target organization.
Located in Malakal, under the responsibility
of the Head of mission and with the support of the regional Technical Advisor,
the Project Manager will be responsible for:
1/ Management of the project: implementation of the MRE-Community
Liaison activities:
- Supervise
the setting up, organisation, monitoring and evaluation of MRE
information’s dissemination through:
- Development
of the MRE-Community Liaison capacities of the staff.
- Supervise
the elaboration, testing and updating of IEC materials in a community-based
participatory approach:
- Playing
a leading role in improving the project.
- Participation
in the annual and strategic pluri-annual planning exercises of the program.
More specifically the Project Manager will help with the identification and
analysis of an extension of our MRE-Community Liaison project in the

Job Context :
A
great concern for Mine Action is the large numbers of people displaced by the
conflict who are now returning to their home areas following the signature of
the CPA.
Due
to lack of information about the risks related to landmines and UXO, Handicap
International aims at addressing the issue of landmines and UXO in Malakal.
Moreover, the influx of returnees in Malakal stretches the resources of the
local people. The assessment conducted by HI in October 2006 confirmed the need
to provide MRE in Malakal (
This
Mine Risk Education project seeks to prepare the local communities and the
returnees in order to know how to behave safely in dangerous environments
polluted by landmines and UXO while carrying out their daily activities in link
with other mine action activities (if any) and resettlement and peace builing
activities.
The
Project will target all the people in Malakal town and surroundings as well as
new returnees before they proceed to their last destinations and, the resettled
returnees living in high returning areas and/or dangerous areas. Special
emphasis will also be put on women, children, and young adults who are often
most affected and not aware of risks related to landmines and UXO in their
daily lives.
